FROM CHAPTER TWO: "HOW ARE YOU SMART?":
(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)
"...8. Intrapersonal intelligence
Your intrapersonal intelligence appears to be very good.
This is a very positive sign because in the constant change of the new economy, having a very clear idea of your own motivations, feelings and values is more important than ever.
Intrapersonal intelligence is very close to what has been called 'emotional intelligence', and a lack of intelligence in this area has seen many otherwise talented individuals fail to reach their potential.
Let's now take a closer look at three aspects of your intrapersonal intelligence
8a. Proactivity ability
It seems that you are a very proactive individual. You have high levels of initiative and motivation, and you are very confident of your ability to overcome obstacles. Also, it seems you are not one to procrastinate.
Stephen Covey, author of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (mentioned earlier), says that proactivity is the first and most fundamental habit that successful people exhibit.
According to Covey, proactivity "means that as human beings we are responsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our conditions...Highly proactive people...do not blame circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior.
Their behavior is a product of their own conscious choice."
On the other hand, "reactive people are driven by feelings, by circumstances, by conditions, by their environment."
A proactive approach in the workplace is now more important then ever. Rather than "just doing their job", workers in the new economy need to always be on the look-out for work that needs doing.
Gone are the days where you can say "that's not part of my job description". The concept of the job description is distinctly "old economy" and so are the reactive attitudes that go along with it.
Despite the fact that your proactivity abilities appear to be at a very high level, you should always look for ways to improve. Adopting a consistently proactive approach is one of the most powerful things you can do to ensure yourself of success in your career.
8b. Self awareness ability
You seem to have excellent self awareness abilities.
Self awareness is the uniquely human ability which enables us to stand apart and examine the way we see ourselves. By using our self awareness abilities we can evaluate our own behavior and make any changes necessary to achieve our goals.
The first aspect of self awareness that we consider here is the extent to which you consider the direction and purpose that your life is taking.
This seems to be something you have given a lot of consideration. Stephen Covey calls this "beginning with the end in mind" and is the second of the seven habits he identifies.
Covey says that beginning with the end in mind "means to know where you're going so that you better understand where you are now and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction."
Because work in the new economy is more demanding and more likely to force you out of your comfort zone, it is more important these days that your career has a clear sense of direction.
This knowledge will help you tap into the motivation that you need to succeed, and help steel you against any setbacks or obstacles you encounter.
You should look to build on the high level of confidence you have in this area.
The other aspect of self awareness we look at is your ability to consider your weaknesses or limitations and make allowances accordingly.
This is an area where you are very confident.
This self awareness can be very useful. Everyone has strengths and limitations and it is important that you understand your own.
That way you can make allowances and ensure that potential weaknesses do not hold you back."
