FROM CHAPTER THREE:"WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?"

(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)

"...Why is it important to know your temperament type?

The last thing you want - in the demanding work environments of the knowledge age - is to be stuck in a role that is not suited to your temperament.

It’s like using a tool for something that it’s not designed for. Have you ever tried to use a knife when you couldn’t find a screwdriver?

Firstly, it doesn’t do a very good job, and secondly it ends up ruining the knife.

People are similar. When they do what they are not designed to do, they don’t perform very well and eventually they break.

For example, someone who likes to work by themselves, and to a schedule, will find it very stressful working with others in a disorganized environment.

That’s why an understanding or your temperment type is another crucial pre-requisite to understanding your Authentic Direction.

KEY ASPECTS OF THE EIFU TEMPERAMENT

Potential strengths: perceptive, creative, sensitive, supportive, emotional, imaginative, curious, adaptable.

Potential limitations: can be inclined to overlook the details in the haste to deal with the next good idea.

What does the fact that you are an “EIFU” mean for your career?

You prefer to work in situations involving other people, rather than on your own. You are comfortable meeting and interacting with people, and you are at ease in a rapidly changing, high energy environment.

You also prefer to work at your own pace and work out your own schedule. You find rules, regulations and set procedure irksome. You like to be in a position where you can meet new people, learn new skills and satisfy your unbounded curiosity.

You may not by nature, be well organized or good at setting priorities and you can have trouble following through on details of a project. You may sometimes become bored and easily sidetracked.

You don't usually enjoy anything repetitive or routine and you are usually less effective working alone.

Your career prospects would be improved if you were able to concentrate more deliberately on the here and now rather than continue to see all sorts of possibilities and then not follow through on your insights and ideas.

You have a strong need to have a career that is consistent with your values. You are also likely to want to make a difference to society and the community. There is also a desire to have a career where you can use your abilities in creative and imaginative ways.

The strongest feature of your temperament is the emphasis you place on your values and a concern for other persons. You have the potential to be able to identify imaginative and creative ways to meet the needs of others in accordance with your values and beliefs.

Your creativity and a natural disposition to serve others is a key feature of your temperament.

If you can develop and retain a sense of realism and sometimes adopt a hard nosed approach to issues you will improve your effectiveness.

You are likely to take your time over reaching decisions. This can be helpful if you need to absorb complex detail. However, sometimes you can agonize over decisions for too long.

At some point you will need to put your stake in the ground.

You tend to make decisions on the basis of how the outcome will affect others, but sometimes you have to put this aside and assess the situation from a more objective and logical standpoint."
