FROM CHAPTER TWO: "HOW ARE YOU SMART?":
(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)
"...2. Logical mathematic intelligence
You appear to have reasonable levels of logical mathematical intelligence. This intelligence is used in mathematics and the sciences, but it also has much more down to earth implications. It is the basis of all systematic inquiry and investigation.
In the modern economy, we need to draw on this intelligence for much knowledge work. While you have some of these basic ingredients of success, anything you can do to improve in this area would be very worthwhile.
2a. Mathematical ability
You seem to be reasonably confident in your mathematical abilities. More specifically you seem to be quite confident at computing numbers in your head and you did reasonably well at mathematics in school.
The ability to compute numbers in your head and to think in terms of numerical categories is important for a lot of work in the new economy. The fact that you are reasonably confident in this area suggests you would do well in areas like finance or IT. But even if this is not your area of expertise, your numerical abilities will probably come in very handy.
Simply being able to literally "sum up" a situation is a very valuable ability. The fact that you did reasonably well in mathematics at school bodes well for your career.
Mathematical ability comes in handy when operating the computers which have become essential tools of trade in almost all areas of work. The really complicated mathematics is built into computer programs but workers still need to be able to interpret the figures and understand basic mathematical terms. You could well be suited to this type of work.
2b. Ability in the use of logic
You don't seem confident about your prowess in the use of logic. You need to find ways to increase your confidence in this area because the ability to use your brain power is becoming increasingly important.
In the new economy you can't merely turn up to work and process the contents of your intray. You are no longer just a cog in a machine where all the thinking is done by someone else. As a budding knowledge worker you need to be able to apply your own judgment and thinking to the situations you face on a daily basis. The use of logic is one of the basic mental abilities involved with this.
The good news is that you have, in your possession, a resource with almost infinite potential that you can tap into to develop your logical abilities: your brain. Latest research suggests that we use less than 0.1 per cent of our potential brain power. So even if you double your ability, you won't have even scratched the surface of what you're capable of. There are many good books on the subject of developing your logical, and other mental, abilities.
2c. Scientific ability
Science is an area where you show distinct promise - even if you are not aware of it. Although you were not outstanding at science in school, you are someone who is naturally drawn to investigate and understand the underlying reasons for things, and why things are the way they are.
You may never have considered yourself to be a scientist, but you are strong in one of the core abilities required by scientists – investigating and understanding the world around you.
Any work that involves observing and making sense of complexity draws on the same abilities that the scientist uses when conducting experiments and developing theories.
A lot of work now requires people to assess situations and make judgments about the underlying reasons. It seems that you would excel in this type of work.
The fact that you did reasonably well at science in school suggests that you have some understanding of the "scientific method". This is the way scientists collect data, and then develop a theory to explain it. As a knowledge worker you should take a similar approach to your work. This "scientific" approach will identify you as someone who can quickly assess situations and explain the underlying causes and reasons."
