FROM CHAPTER THREE:"WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?"
(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)
"...Why is it important to know your temperament type?
The last thing you want - in the demanding work environments of the knowledge age - is to be stuck in a role that is not suited to your temperament.
It’s like using a tool for something that it’s not designed for. Have you ever tried to use a knife when you couldn’t find a screwdriver?
Firstly, it doesn’t do a very good job, and secondly it ends up ruining the knife.
People are similar. When they do what they are not designed to do, they don’t perform very well and eventually they break.
For example, someone who likes to work by themselves, and to a schedule, will find it very stressful working with others in a disorganized environment.
That’s why an understanding or your temperment type is another crucial pre-requisite to understanding your Authentic Direction.
KEY ASPECTS OF THE IIFU TEMPERAMENT
Potential strengths: harmonious, idealistic, sensitive, perceptive, artistic, responsive, perfectionist, dedicated.
Potential limitations:can overlook details in the haste to look at the next good idea. Can find it hard to make a decision.
What does the fact that you are an “IIFU” mean for your career?
You tend to be a reflective and thoughtful person, rather than wanting highly charged activity with others, or high power events and activities.
It is important for you to try and understand situations before charging into things.
Your preference is for social interaction on a small scale: one on one or small groups.
You seek work that is in harmony with your personal values, but which also allows you to express your vision through your work.
You like to develop depth and understanding to your ideas and interests, and to retain control over the way you work and what you produce.
You prefer a flexible work structure with a minimum of rules and formal procedures so that you can work on projects that inspire you.
You are prone to idealism, but with a strong original and imaginative approach to work and life.
There is also a hint of indecisiveness in your temperament that could be overcome by developing a more systematic and planned approach to your work.
You can sometimes be over optimistic in planning a project although you like to have control over your projects and may lose interest if control is lost.
You can become discouraged if work is not directed toward some purpose you believe in.
You may sometimes be inflexible about making necessary changes in your ideas, particularly if those ideas are closely related to your inner beliefs.
You have a strong need to have a career that is consistent with your values and that will make a difference to society and the community.
There is also a desire to have a career that fits in with your life style.
You are likely to take your time over reaching decisions. This can be helpful if you need to absorb complex detail.
However, sometimes you can agonize over decisions for too long. At some point you will need to put your stake in the ground.
You tend to make decisions on the basis of how the outcome will affect others, but sometimes you have to put this aside and assess the situation from a more objective and logical standpoint."
