FROM CHAPTER TWO: "HOW ARE YOU SMART?":

(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)

"...1. Linguistic intelligence

You seem to have a reasonable level of linguistic intelligence. You are quite competent absorbing and processing information in a linguistic form.

The ability to convince, explain and entertain with the use of the spoken and written word is one of the most sought-after skills of the new economy, and can often help you get ahead in your chosen area.

We now examine this more closely by looking at your specific ability in the two areas which make up linguistic intelligence: verbal language and written language.

1a. Verbal language ability

You seem to be confident in some areas of your verbal language abilities, but not so in others. More specifically you seem to be very confident at speaking in an entertaining manner, reasonably confident at clearly explaining matters to others, but not at all confident at getting your point across convincingly.

It could be well worth your while to look at ways of developing your ability to get your point across convincingly when you speak.

There's a saying that in the new economy everyone's a salesperson. So even if this ability is not directly related to your core work, the ability to communicate convincingly can help you get ahead.

Being able to clearly explain work related matters to colleagues and clients is important for many types of work in the new economy, so the fact that you are reasonably confident in this area is a good sign.

Effective communicators are highly sought after so any development of this ability you can make would be very useful. Your high level of confidence with your ability to speak in an entertaining manner is probably a sign that you are effective at engaging other people in conversation and holding center stage in a group of people.

This is a very useful ability for many areas of work in the new economy, and can help to set you apart from others.

Your responses to the questionnaire suggest that you are not confident in your ability to speak in public. Speaking to a group of people is an important ability in the new economy so you should take some action to improve in this area.

1b. Written language ability

Overall your written language abilities appear to be very strong. You seem to be very confident at writing in an entertaining style and producing clear written explanations, but not quite so confident at writing convincing arguments.

Putting a convincing argument on paper is an important part of many work situations of the new economy, so your reasonable confidence here suggests you won't be disadvantaged when seeking this type of work. You can use this ability to develop good general business writing skills that can further your own interests as well as those of your employer.

Writing clear explanations is the most fundamentally important writing ability of the new economy so your high level of ability in this area will be very useful for your career. Much knowledge work involves constantly writing emails, memos and reports and it seems that you would thrive in these types of work situations.

Being able to write in an entertaining manner, which you are able to do, can be a very useful ability to have, even if it is not the core focus of your  work. If you haven't already, you could think about becoming a knowledge creator and writing professionally about your area of expertise!"
