FROM CHAPTER THREE:"WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?"

(Note: this excerpt is taken from someone's personalized ebook. The content of your book would be personalized from your own responses to the FPYC questionnaire which you can begin at the top of this page.)

"...Knowledge work and the IITU temperament

People of all temperaments are capable of being knowledge creators, providers or users of knowledge.

Temperament does have a major bearing on the way we will use our abilities. If you have the motivation, desire and interest your temperament will not limit what sort of knowledge worker you might aspire to be.

In the new economy work is increasingly concerned with processing information.

We draw on our abilities to do this, but our temperament will play an important part in how we process information.

Work in the new economy involves interpreting information and then deciding how to respond to that information.

We all need to master details and be expert in our field. Your natural disposition is to try and build up a picture of the total situation. You like to look for patterns and underlying meanings.

Once this has been achieved you will find it easier to deal with the details.

Given your preference for the bigger picture over details you will find it natural to deduce the solution of problems from broad principles or ideas. It also means that you have the potential to think in terms of a theory or ideas.

These are very important qualities required for work concerned with processing information.

For you it means that you are more likely to enjoy situations where there is plenty of activity or engagement with other people.

IITU and stress

Rules and regulations can stress you, especially if they infringe what you believe to be logical and sensible.

You will judge these rules against you objective understanding of situations, which may or may not take account of factors you don't agree with.

You will sometimes prefer to walk away from situations like this. However, if this is not possible you might to try and understand the reasons behind the rules or procedures.

These reasons are often likely to be related to people issues, an area where you are sometimes not strong. If this occurs try to appreciate the reasons lying behind the rules.

You do not like being told what to do or how to do it.

You will scrutinize any proposed changes with logical clarity and will be scornful of changes changes that appear to be illogical or not well thought out.

You can sometimes be a source of stress for others when you get lost in your own work and fail to pay attention to details.

You need to keep in touch with practically minded people so that you do not get lost in the issues you find intriguing and challenging.

You are not particularly good at dealing with emotional issues as you tend to governed by their head and not the heart. If emotional issues arise you will often try to intellectualize the problems, when a more sensitive approach would be more appropriate.

You can experience stress if you do have enough personal freedom, space and time alone.

You need time to organize your thoughts in an objective and logical manner."
